Untiring contributor to Punjabi literature,
Piara Singh, honoured

New Delhi: Punjabi Manch Delhi honoured Piara Singh M.A. for his
services to the world of Punjabi literature and language. The
function was held on November 25 at Academy of Fine Arts and
Literature. Piara Singh made significant contriution in association
with Dr Hari Singh, Giani Kuldeep Singh and Bhapa Pritam Singh. For
the last 40 years, Piara Singh has been active in Delhi and has also
authored two compilations of poetry. He took care of the Bangla
Sahib library for 21 years and also played a key role in Punjabi
Sahit Sabha;s library.
The Sahitya Academy of India had honoured Piara Singh for his
translation of Khushwant Singh's History of the Sikhs. Piara Singh,
who is now over 83 years of age, is serving as secretary of the
Punjabi Sahit Sabha. Balbir Madhopuri, general secretary of the
Sabha, said the honour extended to Piara Singh was a small way to
recognise his major contribution.
