'Akhiyan Waleo'
touches issues common to India, Pak
Amritsar:
Aiming to encourage people-to-people interaction between India and
Pakistan, Punarjyot Centre for Preservation and Promotion of the
Heritage of Punjab, an offshoot of Spring Dale Educational Society,
organised a play ‘Akhiyan Waleo', a production of Rafi Peer Theatre
Workshop, Lahore, at Punjab Naatshala here last week.
The play directed by Imran Peerzada is a satire that develops around
a simple dramatic situation, a stone, which is lying in the middle
of the road and how it becomes a political issue with politicians,
religious leaders and activists. "The play depicts problems not just
of Pakistan but of any country. The only way to make peace
initiatives successful is by ensuring that people from both sides
visit each other more often," said Imraan. ‘Akhiyan Waleo' touches
issues common to India and Pak.
The play comments on how greed and selfish interests makes people
lose their vision.
"We showed the common people and we showed the political govts also.
You had mullah, political leaders and even blind guys making
statements, it touches a lot of problems. It provides a window but
doesn't teach you anything and now it is up to the audience how they
take the message," said Usmaan Peerzada, Producer, Akhiyan Waleo.
Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop is an established theatre group from
Pakistan.
