Sikh Childrens Day celebrated with fervour and devotion

The Gatka groups captivate Sangat's attention
WSN Network

FREMONT: Hundreds of Sikh children participated in the various competitions on the occasion of the Sikh Childrens Day 2008 with religious fervour and devotion at Gurdwara Fremont. Apart from Gatka competition, other competitions like Turban, Prashada competition, basketball competition, painting competition, and Shan-e-Khalsa competition were jointly organized by the new Management Committee of Gurdwara Sahib Fremont and the Khalsa School.  The Singhs and Singhnis of Gatka Dal California played the central role in the Gatka competition. Experts in Gatka exhibited their valiant movements without fear and in great style. Harjot Singh Khalsa, the newly elected president of the Gurdwara  gave away the prizes to the winners.

The Gurdwara management Committee bestowed the Jathedars of California Gatka Dal, Jaspreet Singh Lavla, Baljit Singh and Raj Singh with Siropas. Others who assisted in the program program included Ravinder Singh, Paramjit Singh, Kashmir Singh Shahi, Lakhbir Singh, Binai Kaur, Amrit Kaur Khalsa, Sarabjit Kaur, Pritam Singh, Paramjit Singh, Jaswinder Kaur Khalsa, Varinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Ravinder Kaur and Balbir Kaur and others from the Sadh Sangat.

The new Gurdwara Management committee including Supreme Council member Bhai Jaswinder Singh Jandi, Bibi Gurbaksh Kaur, President S. Harjot Singh Khalsa and Secretary S. Satnam Singh Khalsa contributed to the success of the activities. The Gurdwara Management Committee and the sangat arranged for tea and snacks as langar. All the children with their parents congregated at the Gurdwra Sahib from across the cities including San Jose, Elsebronte, Tracy, Stockton, Roseville, Sacramento, Frezno, Havard, Union City and Fremont to take part in the various competitions. Though the local Sangat was less in numbers, the gathering from outside the city made a good mark. The lack of awareness of the program was perhaps the reason for low participation by the local sangat.
