Dal Khalsa leader Sarabjit Singh Ghuman surrenders in court
WSN Network

Tired of promises by the police and political top brass of the state not to falsely implicate him, after pleading his innocence and non-involvement in any criminal case, much less in the RDX recovery case, office secretary of the Dal Khalsa, Sarabjit Singh Ghuman, surrendered before the court of Ludhiana Judicial Magistrate Randhir Verma who remanded him in judicial custody till April 21.

Written and oral representations to the DGP Punjab by his wife Yashpreet Kaur and the Dal Khalsa leadership were rendered fruitless when the Mullanpur Dakha police obtained his arrest warrants.

Ostensibly Sarabjit Singh is being linked to the case because he was a friend of the main accused Gurpreet Singh. Though Sarabjit Singh has established beyond doubt that his friendship was over once Gurpreet went overseas, the police feels that it was he who motivated youngsters for violent activities.

At the time of surrender, Sarabjit was accompanied by Dal Khalsa general secretary Kanwar Pal Singh and SGPC executive member Karnail Singh Panjoli. Speaking to WSN, both the leaders said that Sarabjit's arrest was a travesty of justice and it appears that the police are hell-bent on forcing Sarabjit to become a militant.

Sarabjit Singh was repeatedly interrogated a number of times over the last few weeks and it was only when he was asked to "attend CIA staff daily" that he filed a petition in the High Court seeking stoppage of continuous harassment to him and his family.  Before his surrender Sarabjit Singh said that while he and his wife had already joined re-investigation on a regular basis, he apprehended that the police would foist false recoveries on him and thus to defeat the malafide intentions of the police, the best option was to surrender.
