Beware about what your children
are being told
WSN Bureau
AT
a time when Indian establishment is proudly proclaiming its
achievement in touching 10 per cent growth rate (even though
admitting that agricultural sector is growing at 2 per cent), it is
interesting to see the market forces luring the young children into
new age professions. The basic mantra seems to be: “Why study?” or
“Why study any further than you have?”
What is required is basic English language communication skills. Not
skills to communicate your feelings but enough to be able to handle
calls about a broken down washing machine at a call center. Just
have a look at this ad above, published in leading English language
dailies on page 1 (See Hindustan times Chandigarh edition of April 3
for example).
At
a time when newspapers carried some stories about children
committing suicides due to examination pressures, the ad man was
quick to think of this advertisement which basically tells you that
your child is likely to commit suicide if he takes upon serious
studies, so why don’t you tell the muddlehead to learn to tinker
with some computers and do a course in animation than study higher
maths or pursue a political science course? Be careful about who is
addressing your children, and in what language. That is, if you
indeed love them and are concerned.
