Pictorial book on Guru Granth Sahib

Chandigarh: A
pictorial book — Guru Granth Sahib: The Guru Eternal — was released
by Indian Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari in New Delhi
on Saturday.
Speaking at a
function organised by the National Institute of Panjab Studies in
connection with the tercentenary of Gurgaddi Divas of Guru Granth
Sahib, he said Guru Granth Sahib alone can unite humanity.
Authored by Dr
Mohinder Singh, Ansari said the unique aspect of the book was that
it brought together many facets of faith and history.
An exhibition of
photographs of rare Guru Granth Sahib “birs” was also inaugurated by
Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Some rare
photographs by Raghu Rai, Hardev Singh, Sondeep Shankar and the
image of Harmandar Sahib believed to be the first camera photograph
by William Baker also find a place in the book.
Pir Hasan Sani
Nizami of Dargah Nizamuddin Aulia paid rich tributes to the vision
of Guru Arjan Dev, who tried “to create emotional unity of
India
through compilation of the Adi Granth”.
Dr Amrik Singh,
chairman of the Institute, emphasised the need to spread the message
of Guru Granth Sahib through translation of selected hymns into
various languages.
