Pictorial book on Guru Granth Sahib released
WSN Network

Chandigarh: A pictorial book — Guru Granth Sahib: The Guru Eternal — was released by Indian Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari in New Delhi on Saturday.

Speaking at a function organised by the National Institute of Panjab Studies in connection with the tercentenary of Gurgaddi Divas of Guru Granth Sahib, he said Guru Granth Sahib alone can unite humanity.

Authored by Dr Mohinder Singh, Ansari said the unique aspect of the book was that it brought together many facets of faith and history.

An exhibition of photographs of rare Guru Granth Sahib “birs” was also inaugurated by Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Some rare photographs by Raghu Rai, Hardev Singh, Sondeep Shankar and the image of Harmandar Sahib believed to be the first camera photograph by William Baker also find a place in the book.

Pir Hasan Sani Nizami of Dargah Nizamuddin Aulia paid rich tributes to the vision of Guru Arjan Dev, who tried “to create emotional unity of India through compilation of the Adi Granth”.

Dr Amrik Singh, chairman of the Institute, emphasised the need to spread the message of Guru Granth Sahib through translation of selected hymns into various languages.
