PATIALA: Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh badal is racing fast to
wean his party away from Sikhi and embrace Punjabiat concept but
fellow Akali leaders now see Sikhi as a sort of weapon in which
Sukhbir could be trapped. So it was the turn of Akali Dal general
secretary and Punjab's Cooperation Minister Kanwaljit Singh on
Tuesday to suggest that Sukhbir should get himself baptised.
"We have advised him
to get baptized as earliest as possible," the minister said.
Interestingly, he was one of those who had endorsed Sukhbir's taking
over the reigns of the party knowing fully well that as per the
Akali Dal's constitution, only an amritdhari Sikh could become its
president.
Sukhbir is the first
Akali Dal president who is not baptised.
