Virk CMD of
Maharashtra police housing corporation
Chandigarh: Twelve days after the Supreme Court of India restored
the lost glory of former Punjab police chief, DGP SS Virk,
senior-most IPS officer of Maharashtra, joined as chairman and
managing director of Maharashtra Police Housing Corporation at
Mumbai last Thursday.
The development
comes after over-ayear-long battle between the beleaguered officer
and SAD-BJP ruled Punjab government which had suspended the officer
charging him of corruption.
Considered one of
the most high profile cases of Punjab, Virk’s repatriation to
Maharashtra, ordered by the ministry of home affairs was held back
by Punjab government as the vigilance department, headed by Virk’s
confidant-turned-betenoire SS Saini slapped cases of
disproportionate assets against him. After a volley of court and CAT
battles, Virk managed to get back to Maharashtra, his parent cadre,
having served in Punjab on deputation for 23 long years, including
the days of terrorism, and getting a Padmashri in the process.
