Guru Granth Sahib
Scholarship Established in British Columbia
WSN Bureau
Surrey,
BC (KP) - A scholarship, named Guru Granth Sahib Scholarship, has
been established at the Kwantlen University College. The scholarship
has been established by a Kwantlen University business student
Inderpal Singh Gill with help from local Sikhs who donated $10,000.
The establishment of this scholarship has come at the right time as
the Sikh Community is commemorating the 300th anniversary of Guru
Granth Sahib Ji’s Gurtagaddi (Guruship).
The Kwantlen University College Foundation appreciated the handiwork
of Inderpal Singh Gill and announced that they will match the sum of
$10,000 invested by the Sikh Community. The total amount of $20,000
will be awarded to twenty individuals in sums of $1000 each who
commit their time in selfless service for charitable organizations.
The commendable work by Inderpal Singh Gill should work to set
precedents for Sikh organizations based worldwide. Establishing
similar scholarships will undoubtedly bring a positive image for the
Sikhs in the media along with increasing awareness of the Sikh
religion.
Inderpal Singh Gill is an admirable member of the British Columbia
Sikh Community. He has toured several Gurdwaras in North America
organizing Gurmat camps. He takes an active part at the Guru Nanak
Academy in Surrey, which was founded by Bhai Parminder Singh for
increasing Gurmat Parchar for the Sikh Youth.
