Congmen keep fighting in Punjab, with each other

CHANDIGARH: The violence unleashed by ruling Akali Dal activists and the defeat in local body polls have not dampened the spirit of Congressmen busy fighting with each other and last week the state partty spokesperson Bir Devinder Singh in a sarcastic appeal to former CM Amarinder Singh said he should explain his absence from the electioneering to extricate the Congress leadership from an embarrassing situation.

He also said the Parkash Singh Badal has no moral right to remain in power and regretted that security of Congress leaders was withdrawn in view of PRI elections and had not been restored. He demanded that the State Election Commission (SEC) should be given more power besides improving its infrastructure.

The Congress leader also demanded deployment of Central forces during the coming elections to municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Demanding the use of EVMs in the civic polls, he said there was also a need to increase manpower with the SEC.

Meanwhile, leader of the opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal again tried to hold a dharna in front of Badal's residence but was prevented by the police
.
