Badal chants Hare
Krishna, Hare Rama, says preserve heritage
WSN Bureau
LUDHIANA: In a case of twisted sense of culture and heritage, Punjab
CM and Akali supremo Parkash Singh Badal has given a call for
preserving culture and heritage but at the same time displayed his
ability to run roughshod over his own community's culture and
heritage.
"OUR RICH culture and heritage is a great source of inspiration for
us to serve society in a better way," said Chief Minister Parkash
Singh Badal, but what is more important is where he said these
words.
This great self-styled rehnuma of the Sikhs was addressing the
gathering at the "bhoomi pujan" of the International Society for
Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple at Birmi village near here. By
what stretch of imagination does Badal's religion and culture allow
participation in brahmanical concepts of bhoomi poojan and what
inspired him to start his speech by chanting "Hare Krishna, Hare
Rama" is ony something that Badal can answer.
Worse, he even asked the gathering to join him in chanting "Hare
Krishna, Hare Rama".
And what was Mr Badal doing exactly there? Well, he was laying the
foundation stone of Glory of Punjab - Vedic Sanskrit Centre. Some
way to preserve the Punjabi heritage. "It is our foremost duty to
preserve our culture and heritage and also enrich it," he said with
a straight face and lauded the ISKCON mission of systematically
propagating spiritual knowledge among various sections of society .
Praise was being spouted fulsome as Badal said the mission was
playing an excellent role in bringing members of society closer to
Krishna. He also lauded the "food for life" principle adopted by
ISKCON by setting up the Food Relief Foundation, which has resolved
to feed the poor with sanctified and nutritious food. Badal said
providing food to the needy was the noblest service of God. The CM
announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the construction of a library at
the Vedic Sanskrit Centre.
