Mall mania in Punjab costing people power
WSN Network

LUDHIANA: Underlining the sign of things to come, a shocking report has suggested how each Mall in Punjab is consuming power that could serve 8-10 villages.

Currently, Punjab is going through power cuts in rural as well as urban areas that are often several hours long. In a scathing report, The Tribune said, "the people of Punjab seem to be paying the price of lopsided high power consuming projects approved without measures to increase power generation in the state."

It said one multiplex was consuming power equivalent to the requirement of eight to 10 villages and many similar under-construction projects have power load equal to that of 15 villages. "The wide gap between power demand and supply has widened after the malls have become functional," the report said.
