Dabwali curfew
lifted, bhog of Harmandar Singh passes peacefully

Sirsa: Nine days
after Dabwali reeled under violence in which a Sikh was killed,
curfew was lifted from the town as situation there returned to
normal.
Over three dozen shops and houses were torched on July 18, the day
Harmandar Singh died in violence sparked by a 'naamcharcha' ceremony
held at the home of a Dera follower despite strong protests from the
Sikhs.
Deputy Commissioner V Umashankar said some paramilitary forces have
been recalled from the town and the remaining companies would join
them soon.
Nevertheless, a picket around the sect headquarters in Sirsa is in
place after its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh rejected an offer to
resolve the dispute through dialogue, police said.
Earlier, a peace march was taken out at Mandi Dabwali on Saturday.
Hundreds of people belonging to all sections of society including
political and social activists and students participated in the
peace march and urged everyone to maintain peace. On their part, the
Sikh leadership and public ensured that the Bhog Ceremony of
Harmandar Singh passes off peacefully.
The SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh
to the kin of the deceased.
