Badals mum, but British MEP raises
issue of Prof Bhullar
WSN Network
AMRITSAR:
At a time
when Indian media was full of reports about
Pakistan
death row victim Sarabjit Singh and Indian Parliament was tying
itself up in knots over the issue, guess who remembered to bring up
the issue of Prof Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar? No,not Parkash Singh
Badal- Sukhbir Singh Badal duo. No, not even the myriad self-styled
intellectuals in Punjab.
It took Godfrey
Bloom, member of European Parliament (MEP), to point out the case of
Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and accuse the Indian government of
double standards which, he said, “had failed to apply the same
humanitarian yardstick to Davinder Pal Bhullar, who was also facing
death penalty.
“Bloom said
while
India’s
External Affairs Ministry was insisting that
Pakistan
grant clemency to Sarabjit Singh, no humanitarian view had been
taken in case of Bhullar. Bloom in fact displayed his sensitivity to
the Sikh nation’s issues and said he would raise the French turban
ban issue in the European Parliament. He said since own constituency
of Yorkshire in the UK has many Sikhs, he was well aware of the
importance of turban to the Sikh identity. He said he will also be
taking up the matter of release of Paramjit Singh, a British
national who is imprisoned in India for the past more than two
years. Paramjit was arrested in connection with possession of RDX
and is facing trial in the Nabha jail.
