government gets it from court
WSN Network
NEW DELHI:
Shamelessness has become the hallmark when it comes to dealing with
1984 genocide cases’ compensation issue. Last Thursday, the Delhi
High Court slammed the city government for not replying to a
petition for compensation filed by 10 families whom the 1984
anti-Sikh massacre had affected. Justice Rekha Sharma pulled up the
Delhi Government for the delay in filing reply and posted the matter
to August 4, the next date of hearing.
In December last
year, the court had issued notices to the governments at Delhi and
Centre, seeking their replies on the petition by massacre victims
awaiting compensation. Justice S. Ravinder Bhatt had issued the
notices after 10 families had approached the High Court claiming he
Cente in its January 16, 2006, notification had discriminat ed
between old and new claimants.
