AMRITSAR: Re-annointed
as SGPC president, Avtar Singh Makkar has now entrusted charge of
most of the sought after departments to controversial secretary
Harbeant Singh, while transferring at least 12 higher officials of
the SGPC.
Harbeant Singh,
who at one stage was dismissed due to an alleged fake matriculation
certificate, will now look after the administrative charge of
establishment, gurdwaras under Section 87, Trusts and educational
institutions. He is currently on an extention after his retirement
earlier this year, and is widely seen as Makkar's right hand man.
Makkar has also
replaced known scholar Roop Singh as his Personal Assistant with
newly-promoted Assistant Secretary Angrez Singh.
Following the
reshuffle, secretary Dalmegh Singh would be in charge of gurdwaras
under Section 85 in addition to agriculture, a relatively lower job
profile. Roop Singh, a literary person and private secretary to the
president, SGPC, would now take care of Sikh problems emanating in
foreign countries. Ranjit Singh will be additional secretary
(trust).
Angrez Singh
would also act as private secretary to the SGPC president while
assistant secretary (publicity) Ajaib Singh has been appointed
assistant secretary (flying squad). Harbhajan Singh has been
transferred to the Dharam Prachar Committee as Assistant Secretary
while assistant secretary Balkar Singh and in charge (administrative
wing) Gurbachan Singh have been transferred to the Sikh History
Research Board. Accountant Jaswinder Singh has been made in charge
(administrative wing).
