MoU inked, UK
teachers to upgrade English skills
WSN Network
Jalandhar: The
Punjab government on Wednesday signed an MoU with the UK-based
University of Wolverhampton as per which British academicians will
impart advanced training to school teachers for upgradation of
professional skills in English language.
The agreement is
part of Wolverhampton India Project (WIP), a novel partnership
initiative between the town of Wolverhampton and the Punjab
government for bilateral development through collaboration in the
fields of sports, education and trade.
Pat McFadden,
Wolverhampton South-East MP and Vice-Chancellor Caroline Victoria
Gipps signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh
Badal and Education Minister Dr Upinderjit Kaur.
The Education
Department has selected 40 teachers from across the state for this
programme and they would be imparted training by a group of two UK
academicians at a local private school. These trained teachers would
further impart training to other English teachers in the schools.
The state government
is keen that apart from training teachers, the British academicians
also advise on updating syllabus of English at the school, college
and university levels.
