Special train
announced from Anandpur Sahib to Nanded
Another one for Sikh pilgrims from Patna Sahib to Nanded

NEW DELHI:
The Indian Railways has decided to run special trains to facilitate
the journey of pilgrims from Anandpur Sahib and Patna Sahib to
Gurdwara Sachkhand Sahib, Nanded, where the tercentenary of
installation of Guru Granth Sahib is being held this year. The
announcement was made in the Union railway budget for 2008-09
announced by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Apart from that,
Chandigarh will now be connected to Jaipur in Rajasthan, via Rewari
and Bhiwani, through a new tri-weekly Garib Rath Express.
Punjab
got three new trains in its kitty.
Amritsar will be linked to aharsa in
Bihar
and Kochuveli in Kerala by Amritsar-Saharsa Jan Sadharan Express via
Hasanpur and Amritsar-Kochuveli Express. Both trains will run
weekly. Besides this, Pathankot, the meeting point of three northern
states of
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, also got a new
tri-weekly connection to
Delhi
via Amritsar in the form of Delhi-Pathankot Express.
In
lieu of Nizamuddin-Dehra Dun Garib Rath Express announced in the
2007-08 budget, Lalu said a weekly Garib Rath will now link Jammu
Tawi and Kathgodam. The new trains that will benefit Uttarakhand
include a weekly Kochuveli-Dehra Dun Express and Dehra Dun-Delhi
Air-Conditioned Express on six days. In all, Lalu announced 10 new
Garib Raths, 53 other new trains, extension of 16 trains and
increase in frequency of 11 trains for 2008-09. Of the 53 new
trains, 18 will run on all days, 19 once a week, 2 twice a week and
14 threetime a week.
Based on demands the surveys for 37 new lines will be taken up.
There will be an increase in the
frequency of 11 trains. The frequency of the New Delhi-Jammu Tawi
Rajdhani Express will increase from weekly to daily and
Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath from bi-weekly to tri-weekly. The
Kalka-Shimla railway got a special mention in the Budget speech with
the minister saying that the link was likely to be inscribed in
UNESCO as world heritage site. The Railways has decided to run
special trains to facilitate journey of pilgrims from Anandpur Sahib
and Patna Sahib to Gurdwara Sachkhand Sahib, Nanded, where
tercentenary of installation of Guru Granth Sahib is being held this
year.
