Badal wants PM to
name Nanded Sahib Airport
after tenth Guru
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH: Facing criticism over the change of name of the Bathinda
refinery, earlier named after the tenth Sikh Guru, and later a
controversy over naming of the proposed Mohali International
Airport, the Akali Dal government is now trying to add a new twist
to the tale that should take the focus somewhat away from its own
failures. CM Parkash Singh Badal has now urged premier Dr. Manmohan
Singh to name the proposed airport at Sri Nanded Sahib as
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Airport.
Badal, in a written missive to the PM, said it would be "purely as a
token of respect and reverence to the incomparable sacrifices made
by the Tenth Master Sri Guru Gobind Singhji." Significantly, the
year 2008 is being observed as the Gurta-Gaddi tercentenary year at
Sri Nanded Sahib But in a tone that is over conciliatory towards the
Centre, Badal said he had no doubt in his mind that "not only the
entire ikh community but also the total mankind would salute the
Government of India for paying this humble tribute to the
Saint-Soldier unparalleled."
