Sardar Emaan
Singh Mann on “sequence of events”
| |
The WSN coverage
of the Sikhs’ struggle against derawad, particularly the rape and
murder accused Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s anti-Sikh antics, as also the
rift between Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann and Bhai Daljit Singh, has
evoked this ostensibly considered response from Sardar Emaan Singh,
a key leader within the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and son of
Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann. Sardar Emaan Singh Mann has taken
exception to certain reports in the World Sikh News as well as on
its online version. We reserve our comments on Mann Jr.’s exertions
but present for our readers his letter in its entirety. It has
always been the editorial policy of the WSN to present to its
readers the complete picture, warts and all, and have faith in their
ability to discriminate between rhetoric and reality. – Editor |

Sir,
I have been
reading many conspiracy theories with regards to Bhai Daljit Singh
Bittu's expulsion from the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
on your website. It has been suggested that there were some leaders
other than Sardar Simranjit Singh who conspired earlier to rid Bhai
Daljit Singh. Some people say that it is the debauched Patiala
Maharaja's interfering. Some say that Bhai Daljit Singh was
overshadowing Sardar Simranjit Singh. However, none of these
arguments looks at the sequence of events that took place on the
ground.
When Sardar
Simranjit Singh was imprisoned on sedition charges because of
garlanding the genocidal blot on humanity Beant CM with Shaheed
Dilawar Singh’s portrait, Bhai Daljit Singh took over the reigns of
the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
It is the
primary responsibility of the president (or acting president) to
look after the interests of the party. Bhai Daljit Singh thought it
best to subsume the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
into the Khalsa Action Committee. All programs for the Dera issue
were run through this committee.
When Bhai Daljit
Singh met Sardar Simranjit Singh, in jail, on the issue of running
the anti Dera movement through this committee, Sardar Simranjit
Singh repeatedly told him not to subsume the identity of the
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
into the Khalsa Action Committee. Sardar Simranjit Singh's reasons
were:
1. The Shiromani
Akali Dal (Amritsar)
was formed at the Akal Takht for the Sikhs and is capable of running
the anti Dera campaign.
2. The various
organizations that have joined the Khalsa Action Committee have
allegiances to non Sikh centric forces. Specifically Sardar Sarna is
beholden to Capt. Amarinder Singh and Shri Manmohan Singh (PM),
Sardar Ravi Inder Singh to Capt. Amarinder Singh, Jathedar Jasbir
Singh Rode has not been able to carry on the independent mindframe
of Sant Jarnail Singh. Some members of the Committee were in direct
contact with Shri Avtar Singh and Shri Badal.
3. The Shiromani
Akali Dal was not in a majority position (within) the Khalsa Action
Committee.
4. Bhai Daljit
Singh should have commanded the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
and given programmes that would have allowed other panthic
institutions to come onto the party platform, without subsuming the
party into another organization. An example of this is the janam
divas of Sant Jarnail Singh.
5. The
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
is not a weak party; it could and has been able to muster support
independently of other organizations as is evidenced by the recent
Sunam rally.
Keeping these
reasons in mind Sardar Simranjit Singh directed the party to
organize its anti Dera campaign outside the KAC on his release. The
Sunam rally was run along these lines, and it was successful.
Sardar Simranjit Singh ordered that the party was to stay away from
the KAC. Bhai Daljit Singh had every opportunity to discuss this
ban with Sardar Simranjit Singh as both were out on bail, he chose
to state in the press that he was going to go to the KAC gathering.
When Bhai Daljit Singh did attend the KAC gathering, the president
of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
removed him from the party for indiscipline and insurbodination.
I hope this
sequence helps provide some clarity to the issue, although the
current mindframe of this website suggests that this email will only
be viewed as another conspiracy.
