Guru Granth
Sahib Satikar Bill passed
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH:
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on December 24 passed the bill prohibiting
printing, publication, storage, distribution and sale of birs of
Guru Granth Sahib by anyone other than the Shiromani Gurdwara
Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) or persons authorised by it after
changing the word “vikri” with “bheta”, and saying the SGPC will
charge only a fraction of the cost.
Some Congress
MLAs including Avtar Singh Brar said the SGPC should make
arrangements for distributing the scriptures free of cost. “If the
SGPC can give red beacons and security guards to its members, why
can’t it fund the cost of the scriptures?” Brar said.
MLA Ajit Inder
Singh Mofar, once an associate of Simranjit Singh Mann but now with
the Congress, asked what precautions will Punjab government take if
someone got the scriptures printed from outside and then brought
these to Punjab. “And how will you store the seized scriptures if
indeed the police caught someone doing that?” he asked, with the
government having no answer.
The DSGMC chief
Paramjit Singh Sarna has already vowed not to follow the new law.
