Sikh celebration march
WSN Network

HUDDERSFIELD: MORE than 1,000 Sikhs paraded through Huddersfield, a West Yorkshire town 306 km north of London, to celebrate a major religious day on June 22.

About 1,500 members of the Sikh community marched to celebrate the anniversary of the martyrdom of the fifth guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

The parade began at the Sikh Temple in Hillhouse and wound through town. It ended at the Sikh gurdwara in Springwood. It is the 23rd year that the procession has been held in Huddersfield.

Balbir Singh Kooner, general secretary of the Hillhouse gurdwara, said: "It gets bigger and bigger every year and it's been a great success, despite the windy weather. "I would like to thank the police who stewarded the parade and firms which provided coaches for elderly marchers.’’
