Shenanigans all around
WSN Network
That not a single BJP leader raised any voice in favor of the Sikh
community tells a story about the kind of alliance that Akalis in
Punjab have been having with the BJP. That not a single media person
raised this question tells the state of the media.
SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar landed in Mumbai pretty soon after the
first wave of protests. He did not think it fit to meet any of the
arrested Sikhs, nor did he direct any senior leader to meet this
Sikh youth who had led the protests from the front. Instead, he
demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder that immediately dilutes
any demand for arrest of Sirsa dera sadh. Dal Khalsa and Khalsa
Action Committee called his remarks an "unreasonable statement" and
said Makkar should refrain from confounding the issue and delaying
justice. Sukhbir Singh Badal waited for three days before sensing
the great opportunity to go to Mumbai and hog all the lime light.
All he did there was to urge the
Maharashtra government to take action. He met CM Vilasrao Deshmukh
and the Governor and demanded liberal compensation and job to a
family member of the bereaved family.
Instead of taking any family members of Shaheed Kamajit Singh or
asking other Akali groups to accompany in order to present a joint
front of the Sikh community, he preferred to take along Harcharan
Bains, the media advisor to the Chief Minister. It is not clear in
what capacity Bains is serving Sukhbir but there is no doubt about
the entire visit. With a spin doctor in tow, all that Sukhbir wanted
was his 15 minutes of fame. With Bains tagged along, it was easy.
