Singh Kavi Darbar on 28 June

SAN JOSE: To
commemorate the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh –the
architect of the Sikh empire in the eighteenth century, the Guru
Nanak Heritage Institute of Punjab Studies of the San Jose State
University would hold a Kavi Darbar in the afternoon of 28th
June at the Washington Square Hall, which will witness the
participation of leading poets and bards from the state of
California.
Poets and
lyricists would sing and recite free wheeling verses in traditional
Punjabi style would narrate tales of the 40 year rule of the Sikh
ruler who was secular in his approach and who was instrumental in
bringing together the various fiefdoms under one platform for the
establishment of a Punjab which witnessed all-round progress and
glory.
Prior to the
Kavi Darbar, students and other professionals of the department
would highlight various aspects of the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh
through power-point presentations, particularly the aspect of Sarbat
da Bhalla –welfare for all humankind, which was the key cornerstone
of the kingdom of the Maharaja.
