AMRITSAR: To ensure planed and regulated growth of
the holy city of Amritsar, the Punjab government has decided to
prepare Rs 250-crore comprehensive master plan for its cohesive
development with world-class infrastructure in terms of road
connectivity, drinking water, sewerage facility and uninterrupted
power supply.
Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said the master plan would
be completed within six months. He said that out of the Rs 250 crore,
Rs 100 crore would be released by the Punjab Infrastructure
Development Board soon.
The chief minister said the master plan was being prepared to check
the haphazard and unregulated growth of the city.
He said the development schemes and projects in the city would be
executed only after the finalisation of the blue print.
The chief minister asked the local government department to seek the
expertise of the renowned consultants from world over through global
tenders for finalising the master plan in a meaningful and
result-oriented manner keeping in view a long perspective of at
least 100 years.
Badal said the Rs 250-crore master plan sanctioned for the
development of the city was in addition to the Rs 3,150-crore city
development plan approved under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable
Mission (JNURM).
He also asked the district administration to ensure the completion
of elevated road project to Sri Darbar Sahib within the stipulated
time period.
