Sirsa rape and murder accused wants
media to mediate
But the way the press meet went gives the game away
WSN Bureau
SIRSA:
Pooh-poohing any semblance of humility and perched atop his seat of
lies and deceit, the Dera Sirsa head accused of murder and rape sat
on a raised pedestal on Sunday and for the first time answered the
media's questions.
“Management
members of my Dera are ready to sit on the negotiating table with
anyone at any moment," he said by way of a plan to diffuse the
tensions that his antics have triggered.
He did not say a
word about how it behoves a rape and murder accused whom the
country's top sleuthing agency has indicted of heinous crimes to sit
atop a pedestal and lecture others.
And how did this
"press conference" happen? As sheer farce. Gurmeet Ram Rahim sat in
his Sirsa dera amid thousands of his followers as mediamen posed
queries. One can well imagine how media corps would have formulated
the questions to be put to a murderer when he is surrounded by his
armed supporters. But even in such a scenario, sticking to his
characteristic style of functioning, media people were required to
send their questions on paper slips through his volunteers roaming
in the pandal.
The rape and
murder accused asked the media to become mediators, though it is not
known how will it reflect upon the media if men accused of such
inhuman crimes look upon the media as a possible trouble shooter
middleman.
Gurmeet Ram
Rahim does understand humour, it seems. "Those opposing the Dera and
its philosophy are those who suffer monetary losses due to my
anti-drug campaigns." But for the presence of intimidating armed
goons around, people would have had a good laugh.
Asked why he
employed personal bodyguards though he had Z-plus security, the dera
head said, "Even Lord Rama and
Krishna had
their own security forces then, so why so much hue and cry over
mine." Notwithstanding the goons, some did laugh this time.
And like every
single rape and murder accused awaiting trial and punishment, the
dera head, asked to comment on the CBI court framing charges against
him, said it did not make him a convict. "These charges have to be
proved in court," he said. So true! And so in keeping with the
standard criminals' defence. After all, baba is a mere mortal, as
mortal as any rapist and murderer.
Everyone around
him clapped, perhaps in celebration of the discovery that Gurmeet
Ram Rahim is also a mortal, his Jaam-e-Insa merely Roohafza mixed in
some milk!
