FARIDKOT:
A Canada-based
Indian family was booked by police on the charge of duping a local
girl by concealing her husband's previous marriage. A case under
Sections 406, 498A and 120B of the IPC has been registered against
groom Gurwinder Singh, father Sadhu Singh, mother Gurcharn Kaur,
brother Manjit Singh and mediator Piara Singh, all hailing from
Moga and now settled in Canada.
In her
complaint, Kanwarjit Kaur said she married her daughter Ravnit Kaur
to Gurvinder, who was said to be a "famous" doctor in Canada. "We
gave Rs 21 lakh as dowry to Gurvinder's family at the time of the
marriage," she said. However, on arriving in
Canada,
Ravnit, a computer engineer, found that her husband was already
married and his other wife was staying with him. Fed up with the
harassment by her husband and his parents, Ravnit returned to India
and narrated her tale of woes to her widowed mother. During an
inquiry ,DSP Seva Singh found that the accused were guilty of
conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
