Harmandir Singh cremated
WSN Network

MANDI DABWALI: 30 year old Harmandir Singh may have known that his cousin was a die hard member-supporter of the Dera cult. What he perhaps could not have imagined that he would drag him while he was protesting  against the dera and beat him to death.

A member of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha, Harmandir Singh alongwith others were protesting against the blasphemous activities of dera followers when they were attacked. While Sukhbir Singh Badal and Avtar Singh Makkar have condemned the incident, the state machindery has not done much to curb the activities of the Dera which is posing a threat to peace in Punjab in the same way as the neo- Nirankaris did in 1978.

For the first since a year ago, the chief minister of Haryana publicly said that the “government of Haryana would not be soft on anyone.”  Hundreds of Sikhs gathered in large numbers at Shaheed Bhai Harmandir Singh's native town of Dabwali to pay tribute to the Sikh Nation's third Shaheed in the anti- Sauda Dera agitation. Bhai Harmandir Singh, also known as Mandar Singh in the community, was cremated amidst chants of Bole So  Nihal, Sat Sri Akal and ShaeddHarmandar Singh Amar Rahay".

The patron of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar chief Sirmanjit Singh Mann, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar Panch Pardhani chief Daljit Singh Bitto, Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and other prominent Sikh leaders, and members of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha were present on the occasion. He was given a tearful farewell by his parents, brother, wife Manjit Kaur and five year old daughter Sukhandeep Kaur, 5, and three year old son Gurcharan Singh.

The Funeral fire for Bhai Harmandir Singh's body was lit by the shaheed's father and elder brother, along with Jathedar Nandgarh and Avtar Singh Makkar of the SGPC.
