Criminalisation of Punjab polity: The shrieking evidence
WSN Network

JALANDHAR: Criminalisation of politics is a much talked about subject in India but what happened in Jalandhar in the last fortnight is an eye opener. A builder's son was kidnapped, and his family paid a ransom of Rs 1 crore without getting the police into the picture, but the fact got leaked out. Now it turns out that an elected councillor of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation and close associate of the MP from Jalandhar was directly involved in the kidnapping.

Four of the eight kidnapping suspects in the Rs 1 crore ransom case, including Sukhmit Singh "Deputy", councillor and close aide of a MP Rana Gurjit Singh, a liquor manufacturer, have surrendered. Case was cracked by DIG (Jalandhar Range) Narinder Pal Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Arpit Shukla. Apart from the councillor, others who have surrendered are Gurinder Singh Ginda of village Bir Pind in Nakodar, Jasbir Singh Jassi of village Goore and Jatinder Singh Saabi of the Basti Peer Daad locality in Jalandhar.

It seems Deputy hatched the conspiracy to kidnap Micky, son of real-estate developer Subash Kumar Nanda of Mota Singh Nagar in Jalandhar. Deputy knew the victim family well. Some other accused are still at large. The ransom and the weapons used in the crime were yet to be recovered. Another councillor Dinesh Dhall "Kaali" had been detained earlier and is likely to be summoned anytime again.

The kidnappers had lured the developer's son into a trap, the family had to pay them Rs 1 crore for his release. The money was thrown over a railway bridge near Rajpura from a moving train. Soon after, Micky was pushed out of a moving car on the Nakodar Road in Jalandhar.
