Teachers' retirement age now 65 in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: Teachers in Punjab’s government and private medical, dental, ayurvedic colleges and other such institutions can now work up to 65 years. The state government has issued a notification in this regard, allowing the colleges concerned to re-employ willing teachers, who retired in 2003 or after, as per the age criteria fixed by the Medical Council of India (MCI), that is 65 years. The Centre had suggested such a measure keeping in view the dearth of faculty, which is, perhaps, a countrywide phenomenon.
