Sukhbir speaks Advani language on
80’s violence in Punjab
WSN Bureau
CHANDIGARH:
If a
brave woman has revealed one Congress person's name who gave some
form of assistance to Sikh youth involved in aspirational struggle,
trust Sukhbir Singh Badal and his ilk to drumbeat it to the world
that those youth were "terrorists"and that anyone who had any
dealings with them at that time should be punished.
Reacting to the
ongoing row over Sandeep Kaur's book "Bikhra Painda", Shiromani
Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has now dared Congress
president Sonia Gandhi to comment on charges that senior Congress
leaders were in touch wityh some such youth.
Irrespective of
whether theirs was the right way of struggle and how much thought
had gone into the militant activity, the fact remains that the Sikh
quom has respect for many who died at the hands of the police or
were decimated by the brute might of the Indian nation state. Many
in the Akali Dal today were at that time closely associated with
those youth.
And many in the
Sikh nation are proud of many whom the Indian government officially
terms terrorists."
Are martyrs like
Beant Singh and Satwant Singh not hailed by the community at the
Akal Takht? Are Sukha-Jinda not celebrated? Is Bhai Amrik Singh not
a hero? And dare Badal say that Bhindranwale was not a Sant?
But trust
Sukhbir Singh Badal to utter words that will make any Congressman
turn and say such and such were connected to terrorists from among
the Akali Dal ranks.A wonderful way of tarnishing the entire
community.
“Incontrovertible evidence on the murky role played by the Congress
party in the terror blood-bath that rocked
Punjab
for more than a decadeand- a-half has now been provided by two
former chief Ministers belonging to this party. Independent and
credible reports about the bloody games of the Congress had been
circulating the media and political circles for a long time. The
Bhattal- Amarinder spat in broad daylight has only confirmed those
reports and proved beyond any doubt that terrorism in Punjab had
been mothered, nursed and sustained by the then ruling party as part
of its diabolic conspiracies to defame the SAD and the Sikhs for
cheap political gains," Badal said in a written statement.
Sonia must come
clean on this highly sensitive issue, it said.
"At stake also
is the issue of security, unity and integrity of the country. Also,
the Congress owes an explanation to the Sikh community as to why it
chose to paint a fiercely proud and patriotic community as traitors
and terrorists, while the entire conspiracy was, in fact, the
handiwork of the opportunistic leadership of this party."
Here is Badal,
reducing the entire struggle to a conspiracy by the Congress. How is
it different from claims of L K Advani that Sant Bhindranwale was a
creation of Congress? And since when is Akali Dal more worried about
the integrity of the country than the izzat-aabroo of the Panth?
Since it became Punjabi party?
And now we even
have now-sidelined-now-back-in-focus Prem Singh Chandumajra who is
saying that Sandeep Kaur's book has ensured that the cat was out of
the Congress' bag as far as promoting terrorism in
Punjab
was concerned.
