WSN Network

TORONTO: The annual Spinning Wheel Film Festival will celebrate its fifth anniversary, kicking off another year of showcasing films touching the Sikh experience.

This year's festival runs from November 23 to 25, 2007 at the Isabel Bader Theatre, Toronto, and will feature seminars and exhibitions alongside the films.

This year's line-up of films and seminars will include:

Partition - A documentary from the BBC examining one of the world's largest migrations in history when India and Pakistan were created in 1947.

Saving Mom and Dad - Told through the eyes of a 7 year old boy, Ravi must save his Sikh parents through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their savior, before they are lost. Director: Kartik Singh

From Behind the Barricade - A film banned in India for over a decade, looks at the lives of ordinary people and the repression faced during Punjab's troubled times. Director and Producer: Tapan Bose

Kabaddi Cops - A remarkable story about a determined group of police officers from Toronto who take up the 4,000 year old sport in order to bond with the local South Asian community. Director: Greg Cote

A Century of Sikh Photographs (1847-1947) - A photographic exhibition that visually narrates the life and times of Sikhs from the Sikh Raj to the Sikh Diaspora

Indian Classical Music Seminar- World renowned tabla player Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari and vocalist Mohan Singh Namdhari

The festival will begin with a gala evening of world class entertainment and a lavish Indian banquet, all setting the stage for a colourful, exciting and thought-provoking weekend. The following days will be just as entertaining, giving the audience an opportunity to screen a myriad of films spanning all genres, take part in discussion forums with film directors and celebrate South Asian art and music with talented artists.
