Stand-off
on turban continues
WSN Network
SANGRUR:
Authorties at the
Akal Academy,
whose diktat to even the Hindu students to wear turbans had created
a problem, continue to stick to their stand even as parents of 112
Hindu students withdrew their wards and the developments have won a
lot of negative publicity for the Sikh community.
Outraged by the
diktat, parents of many Hindu students on Saturday met Sangrur
Deputy Commissioner VK Ohri at his residence and submitted a
memorandum seeking his intervention in the matter. Some parents were
also thinking of moving the Punjab and Haryana High Court against
the academy order and quoted provisions of India’s Constitution.
Some of the
parents seemed keen to get some Hindu organizations to come to their
assistance, and many of the Hindu forums indeed seemed ready to jump
in. And if that happens, it may set a wrong precedent with every
communities trying to match the other in such acts.
Saner sections
within the Sikh community realize that the ongoing tension may
result in much negative image of the Sikhs but the Akal Academy
people have so far refused to see logic.
