Spinning Wheel Film Festivals-NYC Announced

The Sikh Art and Film Foundation has announced hosting of the Fifth Annual New York Spinning Wheel Film Festival at Asia Society and Museum in Manhattan on Saturday October 4th 2008.  The Spinning Wheel Film Festival which is held annually in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, San  Francisco, Miami and Washington, D.C. celebrates the rich heritage, traditions and culture of  Sikh- Americans through a diverse mix of documentaries, short and Feature presentations. It showcases flm producers, directors and artists for discussions and interactive sessions with the audience, providing a platform for the audience to delve into the makings and artistry of the creators. This year, the Foundation will be presenting cash awards to films in diferent genres. A distinguished panel of judges will select the entries based on their merit and creativity.

● $6,000 for Best Documentary

● $3,500 for Best Short Film

● $2,500 for Best Children’s 

In addition, one Film will be selected and showcased as the Feature Presentation, with a cash award of $3,000. 

In the past, in 2006, in collaboration with the Rubin Museum of Art, the Foundation held a six month long program of Film Festival and Sikh Exhibition “I See No Stranger”,which generated extensive public interest and participation. It also received rave reviews by New York Times Art critic Holland Cotter and other leading American Print and TV media. Coinciding with our Film Festival and Gala, in 2007, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a proclamation declaring Sept 22nd to Sept 28th “Sikh Heritage Week." The Film Festival and Gala will efectively reach a high profle diverse population of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts and target an eclectic mix of companies and families nationwide, who will receive printed materials via mail/email providing a perfect stage to showcase your movies and network with leading members in media and corporate worlds. Te directors/producers of selected movies will also receive invitations to the exclusive Sikh Heritage Gala which will be held at the Cipriani Wall Street on Friday October 3rd.
