replace Patti
WSN Network
THE FORMER
chairman of the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (SGJC),
Amritsar,
Manmohan Singh Brar, is likely to succeed Kashmir Singh Patti, who
today tendered his resignation as chairman in the wake of various
allegations.
Chief Secretary
Ramesh Inder Singh had issued a showcause notice to Patti on May 12
following an inquiry by Financial Commissioner (Excise and
Taxation) S.S. Brar.
Sources said
former Faridkot MLA Manmohan Singh Brar was the frontrunner for the
post and a final decision would be taken very shortly. Patti had
resigned in the wake of the Punjab government instituting an inquiry
after receiving complaints from SGPC secretary Harbeant Singh,
former Deputy Secretary Dayal Singh and Didar Singh against Patti.
The complainants had raised a question mark over the "conduct,
impartiality and judicial propriety" of the SGJC chairman.
In his
show-cause notice to Patti, the Chief Secretary had said: "Now, the
inquiry officer has submitted the report to the government vide
which most of the allegations have been proved against Patti. The
government is prima facie of the considered view that action under
Section 79(i) and (iii) of the Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1925 is warranted
against Patti for his removal from membership/chairmanship of SGJC."
As per the report, Patti had been hobnobbing with activists of
Akali Dal (Amritsar) and sacked SGPC Additional Secretary Raghbir
Singh, among others.
