WSN Network

AMRITSAR: Amritsar now has its own regional passport office and there is talk in the air of a visa collection centre too. The new passport office would cater to the needs of residents of Gurdaspur,, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Faridkot and Muktsar districts.

India's Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee said the new passport office was expected to issue over 1 lakh passports every year. Earlier, this area was served by the regional passport office in Jalandhar. Earlier, CM Parkash Singh Badal demanded that a visa centre for Pakistan and other countries be opened in Amritsar.

Punjab Congress president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ratan Singh Ajnala, Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Gulzar Singh Ranike, and Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla were present.
