Paranoia results in killing
WSN Bureau

LONGOWAL: The intermittent  clashes between followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and various Sikh factions played so much on the mind of 18- year-old Ramandeep Singh that when a group of Sikhs entered his house on Friday night, he picked up a gun and aimed at the visitors.

Tragically, Ramandeep’s shot went awry and hit his younger brother Parminder, killing him on the spot. The Sikh men had come to the house seeking help from the boys’ mother Kuldeep Kaur, who’s a medical attendant. One of their companions had suddenly taken seriously ill and they thought Kuldeep would be of help. The incident shows to what extent some followers of the Dera have taken to the culture of the gun and the level of tension prevalent in Punjab even as the state government refuses to intervene effectively and stem the rot.
