extravaganza for NRIs

CHANDIGARH:
If there is a possibility of big money, be sure that the Punjab
Government will be interested in it. And if the big money involves
dollars and pounds, and is guaranteed to attract the interest of
non-resident Punjabis, what more can it ask?
No wonder the
Punjab Government is contemplating to introduce a "World Kabaddi
League", aimed at generating funds for sports promotion by
professionally exploring multi-crore kabaddi tournaments supported
by Non Resident Indians (NRIs).
Akali Dal
president Sukhbir Singh Badal has hinted at tapping NRIs for Rs 50
crore ($ 1.22 crore) World Kabaddi League.
The idea is to
channelise the funds already flowing into the domain. The
non-resident Punjabis in any case are pumping huge money into
kabaddi tournaments and the government now wants to ensure that the
trend gets developed into a big sporting extravaganza.
Typical of his
style of functioning, Sukhbir Singh Badal has been quick to enter
into plan-drafting with the help of a private company that
conceptualized and marketed the Indian Premier League (IPL) of BCCI.
The Government hopes that the money earned from kabaddi will be used
to promote various sports disciplines.
