New
Delhi: Tejeshwar Singh, one of the very very few Sikhs who made a
big name in the publishing trade, and was also a theatre actor and
television news reader with a deep baritone, died in Mussoorie on
Friday night.
He
is said to have suffered a heart attack.
Tejeshwar Singh, who during his youth sported a turban, studied at
St. Stephens, before going to Balliol (Oxford). He entered the world
of publishing in the 1970s and rose to become one of its most
successful, and professional, practitioners; initially with
Macmillan & Company, later and finally, with Sage India, which he
founded in 1983.
Son
of distinguished diplomat Gurbachan Singh, he was also a famous
television newsreader on Doordarshan in the 1980s and early 90s.
Many of India's top writers and journalists would have many happy
memories connected with his office in M Block, Greater Kailash I in
Delhi. Known to his friends as Bunny, Tejeshwar Singh had a
formidable list of authors, a formidable reputation for himself, and
was a much loved person.
