Sikh devotees
complain of mismanagement in Pak
WSN Bureau
Amritsar: Sikh devotees who returned from Pakistan after observing
the 402nd martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjun Dev complained of
gross mismanagement on part of the organizers in Pakistan during
their visit.
Due to expiry of
term of office bearers of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak
Committee (PSGPC) on March 31, all the boarding and lodging
arrangements were made by Pakistan Evacuee Trust Property Board (PETPB).
“Their arrangements
were so poor that Sikh devotees had to get down on garbage heaps
when the train stopped at Badami Bagh railway station while
returning from Nankana Sahib,” said Rajvir Singh, a devotee.
He added some of the
women devotees even fainted. He said the worst part was that many of
them had to spend the night in tents after they were refused
accommodation at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib, Lahore.
SGPC’s Sikh jatha
leader Baldev Singh Saharanmajra said Sikh leaders had demanded that
the Pakistan government immediately carry out repairs of dilapidated
buildings of Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib and Mall Ji Sahib.
President of Nankana
Sahib Sikh Teerath Yatri Jatha Swaran Singh Gill said the issue of
opening Kasur border with Pakistan government was also taken up with
the PEPTB chairman.
PEPTB deputy
administrator (shrines) Faraz Abbas said they had invited the
applications from the aspirants for contesting elections for the
PSGPC which were likely to be held in two weeks’ time. Abbas said he
would also urge railway authorities at Lahore to receive Sikh
pilgrims at the main railway station for their convenience.
