Plan to appease
Bedi, Sidhu, Madan may not succeed
WSN Bureau
AMRITSAR: A move by
the Amritsar Games Association (AGA) to give key posts to former
Test cricketers Bishen Singh Bedi, Madan Lal and Navjot Singh Sidhu
may run into rough weather with several members moving court against
it.
The AGA, headed by
Deputy Commissioner Kahan Singh Pannu, had recently formed a new
body in which Bedi had been given the post of patron and
vice-president, Sidhu was to be the chief patron and Madan Lal vice
president.
This, however, had
not gone down well with several members, as apart from moving court,
eight submitted their resignations.
Mohit Khanna, who
resigned as executive member, said, "There are hundreds who are
against the move of the AGA. We feel there must be elections to AGA
and all the members must be considered before taking any decisions."
Khanna said the
election process was almost complete and in place of holding polls,
the AGA president formed this new body consisting of people who were
even not members.
The AGA after
forming the new body had also sought approval of the Punjab Cricket
Association (PCA), Mohali. The approval might also not come easily
as Madan Lal is associated with the rebel ICL.
When contacted,
Kahan Singh Pannu said, "Whatever we have done is for the betterment
of cricket. Roping in the likes of Bedi, Sidhu and Madan Lal will
give a boost to cricket and that is why they have been given key
posts." To a question, Pannu said, "This is an ad hoc body and
elections to Amritsar Games Association will be held. If a few
members have gone to court, let them."
