Jagraon police
claims explosives, detonators seized
WSN Network
Jagraon:
Punjab Police has claimed that its cops in Jagraon have arrested two
ultras with 24.5 kg of explosives and 25 detonators. The explosives,
packed in 195 gelatine sticks, were as powerful as the RDX, said the
police. It said there were manufacturing stamps of a Nagpur-based
factory. The detonators were brought from Andhra Pradesh.
The cops issued the statement before even the first forensic or
chemical test could be carried out on the so called explosives. It
is a norm with the Punjab Police to rush to the media and often it
later has to face embarrassment.
The arrested youths, Gurbhej Singh, alias Sonu, of Kathunangal in
Amritsar and Manjit Singh, alias Mita, of Barde Ke village in
Jagraon, both aged less than 25, were said to be unemployed. They
have no criminal or terrorist background.
Typically, the police always claims that its officers or constables
"intercepted" some youth and nabbed them with explosives. It was no
different this time. IG Sanjiv Kalra and DIG Ishwar Singh claimed
that SSP Jagraon Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and his team "intercepted
the two youths during a nakabandi at Canal Bridge in Akhara village
in the wee hours of Tuesday". The explosives were found in a blue
suitcase they were carrying on their motor cycle PB-13Q-4804.
So far the cops have not named any terror outfit but the police has
some favorites, and is pretty good at coining new names. And as has
happened in a number of similar cases earlier, the cops said the
youth wanted to target Piara Bhaniarewala, Gurmeet Ram Rahim etc.
