Early Monsoon will mean lesser power cuts
WSN Network

PUNJAB: Monsoon has hit Punjab at least a few days early, and the farmers are celebrating. The monsoon is proving to be a great bonus for not just them - but also the electricity board. Farmers who used to draw water from submersible pump are saving lot of money while state government is also happy to see cloudy sky all around.

Farmers in Punjab are in celebratory mode but it's also time to get to work. With the monsoon coming early this year, they've already begun planting the paddy.

As a result of the rains, farmers will have saved about 40 per cent of Punjab's electricity usually used by the 10 lakh tube wells in the state. This will bring down power cuts.

Punjab cultivates paddy on 26 lakh hectare of land. For the past couple of years, there have been concerns about reducing ground water levels.
