Vedanti says Manmohan a good man
but no hukamnama
WSN Network
ANANDPUR SAHIB:
Two strange things happened side by side this week. On Tuesday, Akal
Takht jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti said no jathedar of any
Takht, serving or former, should be summoned to the Akal Takht as it
will denigrate the position of the clergy, but in the same breath,
he said any dialogue with Giani Iqbal Singh, Jathedar of Takht Patna
Sahib, was possible only after he apologises at the Akal Takht and
concedes its supremacy.
Meanwhile,
commenting on Jathedar Vedanti's decision about not issuing any "hukamnama"
to direct Sikh MPs to support Sikh PM Dr Manmohan Singh during the
trust vote on July 22, Jathedar Iqbal Singh has said he will has
come forward to support the PM.
Speaking over
phone, Jathedar Iqbal Singh has said the nuclear deal was very much
in
India's interest and he would make every possible effort to support
Dr Manmohan Singh.
He agreed that
since the nuclear deal with United States has no religious
connotation, a ‘hukamnama' can't be issued but said he,
nevertheless, will issue an appeal to all Sikh MPs to favour the
Sikh PM during the trust vote.
"Now, when he
faces a crisis for the country's cause, it becomes the duty of every
Sikh and right thinkers from other religions and faiths to support
him by rising above petty interests," he said.
Vedanti
meanwhile has said he and all Sikhs were proud of Dr Manmohan Singh
but a hukamnama cannot be issued on a political issue.
