Special Police Officer kidnaps boy, throws him into river
WSN Network

JALANDHAR: A Special Police Officer who kidnapped a 7-year-old boy and later threw him in a river has been arrested. Seven-year-old Puneet Pal Singh's body was found floating in the Kanjali rivulet in Kapurthala. Puneet was kidnapped by Special Police Officer Manvir Singh from the Model Town residence of the boy's father and his friend Sukhwinder Pal Singh, who is in Spain.

Kapurthala City DSP Sukhdev Singh Chinna said the SPO after abducting the boy took him on his scooter to the Kanjali rivulet and threw him. He said from the appearance of the body it seemed the boy was first strangulated and then  thrown into the rivulet. In Jalandhar, the police said the SPO thereafter drove away a parked car in which Slovak national Monica Sagginova, who was accompanying husband Gurpreet Singh, an Austriabased NRI, was sitting on the back seat.

The couple were coming back from Jalandhar and had stopped at Kartarpur for shopping. Seeing the car with the ignition on, Manvir drove it away. The woman's husband reported the incident to the police and it nabbed Manvir after some time. It was during his preliminary interrogation after being nabbed that Manvir confessed he had thrown the boy into the rivulet. The Kapurthala police suspect the alleged illicit relations between the SPO and the mother of the deceased as one of the reasons behind the abduction and murder of the child.
