Sirsa baba told
not to hold 'satsang'
Chandigarh: Baba Gurmeet Ram of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda has
once again stirred up tension in Punjab by seeking permission to
hold a satsang. The Punjab government has turned down his request on
grounds of law and order and threat perception to his life here.
It is learned
that Gurmeet Ram wrote a letter to Bathinda DC Rahul Tiwari two days
back and sought permission to hold a satsang at Salabatpura near
Bathinda on January 13 during his four-day visit to the Dera’s
centre between January 11 and January 14.
It may be
mentioned that it was Salabatpura Dera where the he was photographed
imitating Guru Gobind Singh in May last year.
It may also be
mentioned here that Rajasthan government has prohibited the Dera
chief from holding any satsang within their limits, while the
district court in Ambala has asked him not to address his followers
during his visits to the city for court appearances.
The SSP of
Bathinda Naunihal Singh said that though there was as such no ban on
the Dera Sacha Sauda with regard to holding of any ‘nam-charcha’
anywhere in Punjab, police were nevertheless required to maintain
law and order situation in view of the Sikh community’s opposition
to such provocative gatherings.
