Forget harm to Punjabi under my watch: V-C
PATIALA: Vowing not to allow under
his stewardship any bid to relegate the status of Punjabi downwards,
the Punjabi University V-C Dr Jaspal Singh said he will not
entertain any recommendation, which is aimed at diluting the glory
and grandeur of Punjabi language, art and culture in any way.
Presiding over a two-day seminar
at the Senate Hall here titled “Punjabi Lokdhara ate Adhunikta:
Rupantaran ate Punarmulankan”, Dr Jaspal Singh said folklore plays a
pivotal role in providing a strong base to the revolutionary ideas.
The V-C released a book, “Punjabi Stage Kav”, authored by Dr
Rajinderpal Singh Brar. Noted Punjabi poet Surjit Pattar rated
folklore as the fifth “Veda”, which keeps on rejuvenating itself
with continuous social dialogue and interaction.
The seminar is being jointly organised by the university’s
Department of Punjabi and Punjabi Academy, New Delhi. Prof Jaswinder
Singh, in his keynote address, said some of the aspects and
dimensions of Punjabi folklore were changing and vanishing as a
result of the media onslaught. Dr Rawel Singh, Secretary, Punjabi
Academy, Dr Baldev Singh Cheema, Head of Punjabi Department, and Dr
Satish Verma, Director Youth Welfare of the university, also spoke
on the occasion.
