Canadian group to
set up eye hospital at Amritsar

Chandigarh: The Canadian Eyesight International has planned to set
up an eye hospital at Chabba village of Amritsar district soon. The
Canadian Eyesight International president Anup Singh Jubbal said the
state government had agreed to reimburse 50 per cent of the cost on
construction and running of Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Mata Sulakhani
Eye Hospital whereas Chabba Welfare Society had granted a lease of
99 years for 62,000 square feet of land and a building.
"The cost of renovation and construction of a new operation theatre
block besides equipment would be around Rs 4 crore," he said. The
Canadian group has planned five free eye camps in Punjab in
association with Rotary Clubs functioning across the state. "We hope
to perform around 500 cataract surgeries for needy. Three camps have
already been held and 300 surgeries performed."
The charitable society has sponsored and completed more than 46,000
cataract surgeries and over one lakh persons have been treated for
avoidable blindness.
