Bedi issue: Takht
summons for Makkar sought
AMRITSAR:
Executive
members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC),
Karnail Singh Panjoli and Gurvinder Singh Shampura have sought that
Akal Takht jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti summon SGPC president
Avtar Singh Makkar and the five members of a sub-committee that was
constituted to probe allegations of moral turpitude against the
committee’s additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi.
They also sought
that the rest of the executive members of SGPC should be summoned
for accepting the committee’s decision to reinstate Bedi at the post
thereby bringing the Sikh body into disrepute. The two along with a
couple of other SGPC members submitted a memorandum to this effect
at the Akal Takht secretariat here on Wednesday.
Panjoli said he
wanted Makkar to explain as to why the five-member sub-committee
constituted by him had overlooked the facts and given a clean chit
to Bedi. He said the executive members were also party to the
sub-committee’s decision.
The SGPC had
constituted a committee comprising of Rajinder Singh Mehta, Dayal
Singh Kolianwali, Surjit Singh Garhi, Jagrup Singh Dhillon and Baba
Tek Singh to look into the allegations against Bedi after suspending
him.
