Call to Sikhs for census

Stockton: The Sikh Information Centre (SIC) has appealed to all Sikhs in San Joaquin County, California and a nine-county region surrounding Fayetteville, North Carolina to participate in the 2008 U.S. Census Dress Rehearsal. The nationwide census will occur in 2010 after the Dress Rehearsal. In mid-April, residents of these areas will be receiving forms from the census which are blue in color.

Using the pre-paid postage, these forms can be returned immediately upon completion. Question nine on the census form asks residents to identify their race. For obvious reasons, it is important that Sikhs are categorized as a separate race. SIC urges all Sikhs to mark "Some Other Race" and write "Sikh" in order to be counted separately.
